Music Theory +History
[RCM/Abrsm Exam Prep Course]

Our music theory course is conducted in a way that complies to the content of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada (RCM) and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examination materials. With a total of 12 class hours, we covers all contents of RCM level 1-8 and ABRSM level 1-5. This course combines pre-recorded video lessons, real-time online Q&A lessons, one-on-one tutoring, and original workbooks materials to achieve an ideal learning experience. Animated video lessons makes music theory learning more accessive and more interactive, which is therefore more effective than traditional teaching styles.

The music history component of this course also follows the same format as the theory lessons, and are conducted simutaneously with the theory component of the course. There will be 24 video lessons in total, of which 2 will be added each week. With the 24 lessons on basic music history, we strive to bring music theory knowledge out of textbooks and scores, and into the real creative processes of our students.

MTS provides students with a 100% pass rate guarantee in both RCM examinations and ABRSM examinations of the targeted level. If the student fails the exam on the first try, MTS will provide students with a second chance to take the course and exam free of charge, including the examination registration fees. (The only exception to this rule is if students are unable to complete the course due to personal reasons. Students who either drop out of the course or refuse to conplete course work are not qualified for free continued learning at MTS)

Music History &art Appreciation

This course contains a total of 24 pre-recorded lessons on history of western art music. The contents spans over a thousand years of history, starting from the Medieval period, then progressing to the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern period. Student will learn to understand and identify different styles of music from different time periods in history and even other styles of music from all around the world. Combining theoretical and factual knowledge and teaching, we strive to bringing flat knowledge alive and into our students' lives. The ultimate goal is for students to experience the charm of music immersively. The history series endeavors to not only teach facts about historical composers' lives and their works, but also to lead students to analyze, feel, and use their imagination. Music can both be very realistic or vague, no interpretation is necessarily right or wrong; it is more about feeling the genuine emotions and beauty that music touches us with. Our animated original video production makes learning more enjoyable than any textbook could.

During the final week of the course, students will complete a musical final project that prompts them to utilize their new understanding of the important works throughout music to prepare the background music to a short animation clip. MTS will actively provide students with guidance and production of the final product. Basically, students will choose a story template, fill in the storyline according to their own creativity, and choose the most suitable soundtracks for each section of the story from 50 pieces of classical music provided by the teacher. Finally, students can choose to dub their own stories, and MTS will make animated short films for students! Come and receive your musical story!

Your current place in your musical journey is important to us but it should not limit you to any of the courses that is available. Your age and previous music experience is not a barrier that should hold you back from taking up this musical adventure to understand classical music, enjoy classical music, and fall in love with the exploration and innovation involved in learning to understand classical music.

Musicianship

Music comprehensive ability training is an area that is often neglected by students and teachers. Music comprehensive ability training includes rhythm training, dictation, sight singing, impromptu composing, and fast sight reading ability. Every single ability listed above is an indispensable part of students' overall music learning.
